Movado means "always in motion" and is representative of the group's drive to be the leader of innovative technology and design without sacrificing the standards of quality which have made them one of the top Swiss timepiece creators for over a century. Founded by 19 year old Achilles Ditesheim in 1881, the Movado line was conceived in a small workshop in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland. Ditesheim started with only six workers and all watches were assembled entirely by hand. Despite its humble beginning Movado was recognized early on for its exquisite craftsmanship and inventive technology. In 1912 they took the world by surprise with the release of the Polyplan, a watch featuring a patented movement constructed on three planes, which allowed the watch case to be designed to follow the contours of the wrist. In 1947 Nathan Hewitt created the Museum Watch' featuring a round faced dial and a single dot at the twelve o'clock position to symbolize the rising sun and moon. Admired for its stark simplicity the Museum piece is now recognized as the iconic Movado watch. The Movado watch collection includes some of the most famous timepieces ever made, and it continues to adorn the rich and famous.
